What We Believe
Walnut Grove is an Assembly of God Church​ and we adhere to and believe the 16 Fundamental Truths of the Assemblies of God.
Scripture
We believe the Scriptures are Inspired by God and declare His design and plan for mankind.
The Trinity
We believe there is only One True God - revealed in three persons... Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (commonly known as the Trinity).
Jesus
We believe in the Deity of the Lord Jesus Christ. As God's son Jesus was both human and divine.
Fall of Man
We believe though originally good, Man willingly fell to sin - ushering evil and death, both physical and spiritual, into the world.
Salvation
We believe every person can have restored fellowship with God through Salvation (accepting Christ's offer of forgiveness for sin).
Baptism (Water)
We believe and practice two ordinances - Water Baptism by Immersion after repenting of one's sins and receiving Christ's gift of salvation, and Holy Communion as a symbolic remembrance of Christ's suffering and death for our salvation.
Baptism (Holy Spirit)
We believe the Baptism in the Holy Spirit is a special experience following salvation that empowers believers for witnessing and effective service, just as it did in New Testament times.
Speaking In Tongues
We believe the initial physical evidence of the Baptism in the Holy Spirit is Speaking in Tongues, as experienced on the Day of Pentecost and referenced throughout Acts and the Epistles.
Sanctification
We believe sanctification initially occurs at salvation and is not only a declaration that a believer is holy, but also a progressive lifelong process of separating from evil as believers continually draw closer to God and become more Christlike.
Mission Of The Church
We believe the Church has a Mission to seek and save all who are lost in sin. We believe the Church is the Body of Christ and consists of the people who, throughout time, have accepted God's offer of redemption (regardless of religious denomination) through the sacrificial death of His son Jesus Christ.
Leadership
We believe a Divinely Called and Scripturally Ordained Leadership Ministry Serves the Church. The Bible teaches that each of us under leadership must commit ourselves to reach others for Christ, to worship Him with other believers, and to build up or edify the body of believers-the Church.
Divine Healing
We believe divine Healing of the Sick is a Privilege for Christians Today and is provided for in Christ's atonement (His sacrificial death on the cross for our sins).
The Blessed Hope
We believe in The Blessed Hope - When Jesus raptures His church prior to His return to Earth (the second coming). At this future moment in time all believers who have died will rise from their graves and will meet the Lord in the air, and Christians who are alive will be caught up with them, to be with the Lord forever.
Millennial Reign of Christ
We believe in The Millennial Reign of Christ when Jesus returns with His saints at His second coming and begins His benevolent rule over earth for 1,000 years. At that time many in the nation of Israel will recognize and accept Him as the Messiah, the Savior who died for them and all mankind.
Final Judgement
We believe a Final Judgment will take place for those who have rejected Christ. They will be judged for their sin and consigned to eternal punishment in a punishing lake of fire.
New Heavens & Earth
We believe and look forward to the perfect New Heavens and a New Earth that Christ is preparing for all people, of all time, who have accepted Him. We will live and dwell with Him there forever following His millennial reign on Earth. 'And so shall we forever be with the Lord!'​
3 Positional Stances
Three positional stances Walnut Grove has adopted.
Marriage & Human Sexuality
We believe God intentionally designed and created humanity male and female (Genesis 1:27; Genesis 5: 1-2; Matthew 19:4; Mark 10:6). We believe marriage is ordained and instituted by God, and according to the Scriptures can only exist and be fulfilled between a man and a woman (Genesis 2:21-24; Mark 10:2-12; Matthew 19:3-11; Ephesians 5:21-33; 1 Timothy 3:2,12). We believe a marriage is a picture of the relationship of Christ and the Church, and is to be a lifelong, covenant relationship between a man and a woman based on love, respect, mutual submission and personal sacrifice (Ephesians 5:21-33; 1Peter 3:1-7; Malachi 2:14-16; 1 Corinthians 7:10-16; Matthew 5:31-32; 19:3-11). We believe God intended sexual intimacy to be enjoyed only within the context of the male and female marriage relationship; and that all other sexual relations outside of marriage are personally destructive, sinful, and forbidden by God (Hebrews 13:4; Genesis1:28; 2:25; 1 Corinthians7:2-5; Leviticus 18:1-30; Romans 1:24-32; 1 Thessalonians 4:1-8; Jude 1:7).
Because God has ordained marriage and defined it as the covenant relationship between a man, a woman, and Himself, Walnut Grove Assembly of God will only recognize marriages between a biological man and a biological woman. Further, the Pastors and staff of Walnut Grove Assembly of God shall only participate in weddings and perform marriages between one man and one woman. Finally, the facilities and property of Walnut Grove Assembly of God shall only host weddings between one man and one woman.
Gender
We believe that God wonderfully and immutably creates each person as male or female. These two distinct, complimentary genders together reflect the image and nature of God (Genesis 1:26-27). Rejection of one's biological sex is a rejection of the image of God within that person.
Sanctity of Life
We believe that all human life is sacred and created by God in His image. Human life is of inestimable worth in all its dimensions, including pre-born babies, the aged, the physically or mentally challenged, and every other stage or condition from conception through natural death. We are therefore called to defend, protect, and value all human life (Psalm 139).
Final Statement of Beliefs & Conduct
The statement of faith does not exhaust the extent of our beliefs. The Bible itself, as the inspired and infallible Word of God that speaks with final authority concerning truth, morality, and the proper conduct of mankind, is the sole and final source of all that we believe. For purposes of Walnut Grove Assembly of God Church's faith, doctrine, practice, policy, and discipline, our church board is the final interpretive authority on the Bible's meaning and application.
